Text Box: Clearly in a course of this kind, it is essential that we exercise utmost caution. We are explicit about  risks, these are detailed within the application pack. Some delegates are refused entry as participants on medical grounds. Endoscopy is performed with appropriate monitoring. 

A dry mouth may persist for a few hours and a sore throat may be present for 12-24 hours. 

Participating delegates must not drive for 4 hours after endoscopic intubation therefore some delegates may wish to arrange overnight accommodation following the course. 

Complications observed in the first 150 delegates:-
Fainting - 3 delegates felt faint after endoscopy and a long fast.
Vomiting - A delegate vomited an undigested meal despite an 8 hour fast.
Rigors - Two delegates have experienced a temperature and rigors some hours following the endoscopy session. 
Reflux - One delegate with a history of GORD developed dysphonia, and inflammation of the glottis and epiglottis; attributed to reflux during the endoscopy.

Text Box: Risks of FOI under local anaesthetic include: - 

Trauma 
anywhere within the airway.

Allergic reactions 
to latex, xylometazoline, lidocaine, or glycopyrrolate.

Local anaesthetic toxicity
leading to convulsions or cardiac arrest. Permanent anosmia has been reported.

Aspiration of gastric contents.

Infection with TB, HIV, CJD, hepatitis B,  C,  or any other organism.
