Text Box: This course provides intensive practical and theoretical tuition in airway local anaesthesia and fibreoptic endoscopy for anaesthetists using the course delegates as training subjects. Direct instruction is provided by 3 experienced clinicians during four practical sessions. These are supported by seven 15 minute slide or video presentations. There are two levels of entry :- as a PARTICIPANT or as an OBSERVER. Each of the participants undergoes topical airway local anaesthesia and endoscopy during one of the two final practical sessions. Endoscopy is undertaken by each of the other course PARTICIPANTS whilst being supervised by an instructor. The last participant performs tracheal intubation. Practical sessions take place in an operating theatre with appropriate levels of monitoring. Observers attend all sessions and participate in practical sessions on models and mannequins. Observers will see the provision of local anaesthesia and endoscopy of the airway performed by the participants. In order to maintain intensive instruction numbers are strictly limited to 6 participants and 2 observers on each course.
